2016年5月12日，澳大利亚悉尼大学周虹教授应邀访问苏州大学骨科研究所，并致《成骨细胞内糖皮质激素信号对糖脂代谢的调节》专题报告。
糖皮质激素作为多效激素，在食物代谢、免疫防御、骨骼和结缔组织的平衡以及生长发育中有重要的调控作用。临床上，糖皮质激素因其卓越的抗炎和免疫调节作用已被广泛应用。然而糖皮质激素的副作用亦极明显，常引起骨质疏松、糖尿病和肥胖，导致其治疗效果受限。周虹教授课题组研究发现，体内成骨细胞是糖皮质激素的重要靶细胞。在糖皮质激素诱导的糖尿病和肥胖的发病机制中，成骨细胞产生的骨钙素发挥着核心的作用。同时骨细胞中的糖皮质激素信号通路在高脂肪饮食引起的身体组成和糖代谢变化中亦起着重要的作用。周教授对骨细胞中的内源性和外源性糖皮质激素作用机制的揭示为预防和治疗糖皮质激素引起的骨质疏松症提供了新的潜在方法。

Professor Hong Zhou is a Senior Principal Research Fellow at the University of Sydney and Head of the Molecular Bone Biology Laboratory at the ANZAC Research Institute, Sydney. She has extensive experience in the cell and molecular biology of musculoskeletal tissues, glucocorticoid signalling and animal models of bone and joint pathology. In past 5 years, her research was supported by 7 NHMRC project grant. Over the course of her career, she has published 94 scientific reports (29 in the past 5 years), many of which appeared in top-ranking journals such as J Clin Invest, J Exp Med, PNAS, Development, Arthritis Rheum, JBMR, Diabetes, Cancer Res, JBC and Bone. Her research has received 2612 citations since 2011. Her current H-Index is 38 (Google Scholar).
Awards: Hong Zhou received the ‘Most Outstanding Basic Abstract Award’ at the annual scientific meeting of the American Society of Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR) in 2011, the world’s prime bone research event with over 2000 abstract submissions. Her team have won the ‘Outstanding Abstract Award’ at the Australian New Zealand Bone and Mineral Society (ANZBMS) annual scientific meeting in 2013 and 2014. She is also awarded International Short Term Visiting Collaborative Research Fellowship, institute of Chinese Minority Traditional Medicine, Minzu University of China, Beijing, China in 2014 and University Fellow in School of Chinese Medicine, Hong Kong Baptist University in 2016.
Editorial boards, Journal and Grant peer-review: Hong Zhou is an editorial board member of several journals including Frontiers of Endocrinology, Bone Research, Journal of Orthopaedic Translation, Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research, and World Journal of Biological Chemistry. She also provides ad-hoc peer review for many journals including Arthritis & Rheum, J Bone Mineral Res, American J Pathology, Biomaterials, Endocrinology, Bone, Calcified Tissue Intl, Osteoporosis Intl, J Cellular Physiology, PLos One and others. She has served as NHMRC reviewer for the past 14 years and was a GRP member in 2008 and 2009.
Professional memberships and activities: Hong Zhou was the Chair of the Board of International Chinese Musculoskeletal Research Society (ICMRS) (2011-2015) and a board member of the ICMRS from 2007-2015. She is member of Strategy Working Group of International Federation of Musculoskeletal Research Societies (IFRMS). She is an active member of number of societies including ASBMR, ANZBMS, IBMS and a lifetime member of ICMRS. She served as co-chair of the Scientific Program Committee (SPC), 7th International Conference on Osteoporosis and Bone Research (ICOBR) Xiaman, China, 2014 and 6th ICOBR, Xi’an, China, 2012. She was a SPC member of the number of national and international meetings, e.g. ANZBMS (2014) Inaugural ICMRS-ASBMR International Chinese Musculoskeletal Research Conference, China (2013 and 2015).
